Funeral Services Held For 3-Year-Old Victim Of Alleged Abuse

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Funeral services were held Saturday morning for a little boy who police say was tortured daily by his godmother and her boyfriend in West Philadelphia.

Family and friends said their last words to Jaquinn Brewton as he was laid to rest in the Nicetown-Tioga section of the city.

The 3-year-old died Monday from injuries he allegedly suffered on June 29th while in Nadera Batson’s apartment (see related story).

Police say Batson, 22, and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Marcus King, beat and burned the little boy with a blow torch over the past several months.

Batson and King have been charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child, and other related offenses.

my questions are if this boy’s mother had the other 4 kids with her living in a shelter then why did she not have this child with her? why let these people have him? she said in the interview she has been trying for month’s to see the boy.he was living with the godmother since march or april. if its your son and you have coustody then call the cops.the said he had burns and other abusive signs. no one saw this? no one call children services? now before they pulled the plug on this angel the family comes out of the wood work crying and screaming? one of them stating “i only saw him twice” if the family was so concerened why didnt they step up and take this angel? i hope the 2 people who are charged get what they deserve.but where was his family?

It is absolutely heartbreaking to think of that little boy enduring their abuse and torture and they probably enjoyed doing it to him. They deserve the exact same treatment over an extended period, blowtorches and all.

that is some mean and cruel stuff to do to a three years old boy but thats ok god don’t lie them for killing the poor little boy

This is an example of why we need the death penalty. Will it bring the boy back?, no.. .Will it prevent this from happening again?, no.. . . Will it bring relief to the boy’s family?, no. . . . What it will do though is put fear and terror into these two individuals every day, and make them live in fear like they made this little boy do. That in my opinion is justice. . . . .
