Top Upcoming Fun Runs In Philadelphia

Tough Mudder, tough scmudder. Extreme races might be all the rage, but what about those of us who aren't looking to get electrocuted or drown in a sludge pool during our Saturday morning run? If you'd rather dress up like a superhero than try to actually be one, these are the craziest, zaniest, most fun races to hit the Philly area this spring. – Chelsea Karnash

Run the Vineyards

Various locations
www.gooddayforarun.com
Date: Vary

These races at area wineries bring new meaning to the concept of "wine trail." Whether you're at Chadds Ford's Penns Woods Winery or Sand Castle Winery in Bucks County, expect live music, vendors, food and of course, wine tastings galore. Just be sure to register early; the vino ensures these runs sell out quickly.

Date: May 17

Beer specials and food trucks abound at the awesome-sounding, first-ever Fox Trot 5K. In addition to lawn games like cornhole and life size beer pong, there will also be live music, tons of great beer, and oh yeah -- a 5K race.

City Running Tours – Running the Yards

Yards Brewing Company
901 N Delaware Ave
Philadelphia, Pa.
www.cityrunningtours.com
Date: May 24

While City Running Tours is always offering a selection of fun runs, this one stood out because, well, it's at the Yards brewery! In addition to a tour of the brewery's grounds, thirsty runners will also get to see parts of the city at a faster pace, including the Liberty Bell and the Delaware waterfront. Just take note – this one is not a race (except when it comes to scoring a post-run brew, of course!).

Paws & Feet 5K Race and Doggie Fun Day

Cooper River Park
5300 N Park Dr
Pennsauken Township, NJ
www.kintera.org
Date: May 17

Grab your pup and head out for a day of fitness and fun, all to benefit the Animal Welfare Association. Run or walk the 3.1 mile course, then enter your pooch in a pet contest or take a lap round the agility course. Live entertainment will also be provided.

See Chicks Run

Philadelphia, Pa.
www.runtheday.com
Date: June 1

Hundreds of women will take to the trails of Wissahickon for the fourth annual "See Chicks Run" race. The race, which includes both 5K and 10K options, features cash prizes, free t-shirts…and one lucky dude, chosen by a lottery, who acts as "the Rooster." Proceeds benefit CHOPS's Healthy Weight Program.

ODDyssey Half-marathon

Please Touch Museum
4231 Avenue of the Republic
Philadelphia, Pa.
www.oddysseyhalfmarathon.com
Date: June 8

While this is obviously for the more hardcore fun-runners (13.1 miles is no joke!), it's not your average half. Expect live music, crazy costumes, optional challenges and a Sly Fox beer garden for re-hydrating (or just celebrating) at the finish line. And if you're hurting after this one, you can also hop in line for a free 5 – 10 minute post-race massage.
