Beer. You love it, we love it, Philly loves it. In a city with weeks devoted to beer and surrounded by breweries, you know there are going to be some great places to grab a pint. Here are a few places were we like to get “hoppy.” - Ted Scheid

You could spend thousands of dollars traveling the globe, sampling beers as you go, or you could just head over to the Foodery. Northern Liberties houses the larger of its two locations, which are both packed with an overwhelming selection of brews. From fine Belgian dubbels to Japanese craft ales to domestic delights, the Foodery has it all. Can’t wait to crack that beer open? There’s an area right in the store to sit, people watch and continue your world tour.

Kraftwork

The latest in Philly’s gastropub craze, Kraftwork boasts an impressive beer selection and some eccentric décor. But while the decorations are impressive, the beer list is beautiful. It’s hard to choose from the over two dozen beers on draft, and the food selection is just as overwhelming. The beer can chicken sandwich is tear-inducing, and the pork Rice Krispie treats are crazy and amazing.

West Philly beer snobs have a safe haven in Local 44. With an ever-changing list of taps and some truly tasty food, this spot does not disappoint. It can get a little crowded on weekends, but it’s worth a visit to get a pint of hoppy ale and some pork tacos.

This Kensington bar is the place to go for the beer-obsessed. In fact, the appreciation for beer here is unrivaled, especially during Philly Beer Week. You’ll never have the same pint twice when you head to the Taproom, and the food’s not too shabby either. It should be a requirement for all bars to have fried pickles, but the ones at Memphis are particularly fantastic.

When it comes to beer, there are few places that rival Monk’s Café. The beer list is more like a book, and the selection is incredibly extensive. It’s hard to go wrong, so just close your eyes and drink up. Plus, you can top off that liquid dinner with some quality mussels and incredibly tasty burgers.
