In God We Trust
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald called it “a movement by the right-wing evangelical Christians across the country basically to impose Christianity” in public buildings.
The bill, which allows the posting of “In God We Trust” and the Bill of Rights in schools, was previously amended by the House to eliminate language that had required schools to display the national motto.
Discussion in the state House over whether schools should post the national motto – “In God We Trust” — turned into a debate about funding for Philadelphia schools yesterday afternoon.
The national motto, designated by Congress and President Eisenhower in 1956, is “In God We Trust.”
Pennsylvania public school districts would be required to post “In God We Trust” in every school building under legislation that advanced out of a committee in the state House of Representatives this week.
