Mouphtaou Yarou made his first seven shots and scored 18 points, sending Villanova to a 66-53 victory over St. John’s in the second round of the Big East tournament Wednesday night.
JaQuon Parker had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Bearcats (22-10), who might have solidified an NCAA tournament berth with the win.
The Seton Hall Pirates (15-17) waited until the final minute of regulation to make it interesting, but the team from South Orange rallied in overtime to a 46-42 victory over the South Florida Bulls (12-19).
The Big East tournament will have a touch of a wake to it this week. When games end, there will be plenty of reminiscing about rivalries and talk of what is to come.
The Wildcats squandered a 16-point halftime lead and lost to the 15th seeded South Florida (10-22), who had previously lost eight of nine.
