The House voted unanimously on Wednesday in favor of a bill that would require schools and their contractors to conduct the checks before offering jobs to anyone who has direct contact with students.
Wednesday’s bill expands background checks on private party gun sales, and at gun shows, effectively closing the “gun show loophole.”
Sources tell KYW Newsradio that Republican Senator Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania thinks he may have the votes to try and pass the legislation to intensify gun background checks that was recently defeated in the Senate.
The proposal calls for expanding government-funded mental health treatment, requiring parental sign-off before minors can buy or rent violent video games and mandating would-be gun owners show government-issued IDs.
