Man Dies, Firefighters Injured After Flames Rip Through Fishtown Apartment

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A man has died after flames ripped through an apartment in Fishtown early Wednesday morning.

It happened around 3 a.m. in the 1200 block of Shackamaxon Avenue.

Firefighters arrived and found the upper floors engulfed in flames and a 60-year old man unconscious inside an apartment. He was rushed to Hahnemann Hospital where he died a short time later.

Crews evacuated the building as they investigated the blaze, which was placed under control in less than a half hour. Authorities believe it may have been sparked by a couch that caught fire.

Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
