Police: Student In Custody After Bringing Gun To School

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia high school student is in police custody after a loaded handgun gun was found in his bookbag this morning.

The gun was found at Randolph Technical High School on Henry Avenue in Nicetown, as a student was going through the metal detectors.

District spokesman Lee Whack says the loaded handgun was found in the student's bookbag at about 8:45 a.m.

The school was locked down for an hour as police investigated.

The student - whose name hasn't been released - is in police custody.

No shots were fired and police say no one was injured.

There no word on why the student had the gun in his bag.
