Nike Wants Us To Stop With Hashtags, Zombies, Celebs & Go Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nike has released a new set of witty advertisements that are taking aim at the things we hold near and dear like selfies, sharing our political opinions with all of our followers and keeping up with the celebrities of our choosing.

For some, these are ways of life, but the new campaign seeks to put down these type of activities and instead get outside and do something active. Specifically, they'd like to see you lace up a pair of their shoes and go running.

One ad that is causing a bit of a stir was the 20 second spot on opinions.

2016 could be defined as the year of the opinion as most of saw plenty of political views on our social media timelines. The rapidly moving ad even stated "opinions about politics," in a mundane drone that made it very clear how Nike felt about the practice.

In a climate where some very strong opinions were shared this year, was this a smart move by Nike?

Political views weren't the only thing that the company took aim at.

They also took aim at our need to share pictures of the most random things, our obsession with zombies and the constant stream of information about our friends' lives that we get from social media.

Each spot wrapped up with how much time you could have set aside for running had you not taken place in any of these activities.

So, will you be dropping the spreading of your political views to instead pick up a pair of sneakers? Nike hopes so.
