Fake news made real headlines this past year for the role it played during the presidential election. Facebook acknowledged the amount of stories spread on the platform as news, but that actually pushed false information regarding the candidates.

The Newmark Chair will create certification programs for journalists and expand the organization's education efforts in journalism ethics. The person in the seat will organize a yearly conference on ethics

"I want to stand up for trustworthy journalism, and I want to stand against deceptive and fake news," Newmark said. The group will start the search for the new member in January and that person will work with groups like Google, Facebook and others to help foster trustworthy news.
