FBI Holds Award Ceremony For Philly Police

by Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The FBI held an award ceremony on Thursday to recognize police officers from Philadelphia and surrounding communities for their assistance in apprehending violent criminals.

Collaboration and attention to detail are keys to good police work, says FBI supervisory special agent Jim Tarasca.

He read the names and stories of about two-dozen officers who were given awards for their efforts.

"This is our way of saying thanks. To present each recipient with a letter from the FBI Director Comey, signed for their families to see and for their commanding officers to see, just to recognize our partners," said Tarasca.

Many of those honored were feet-on-the-street officers and detectives.

Danielle Imes does her work in a lab as a supervisor for the Philly PD's forensics division. She decoded the DNA evidence that helped put a murder suspect in jail.

"Honestly, I was very surprised, like I just did what I usually do. It's basically the routine, but in my little corner of the world, it's absolutely great and cool to be able to work with the FBI task force," said Imes.
