CBS 3 Pet Project: Ways To Help Animal Abuse Victims
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pet adoption is not the only way to help out the Pennsylvania SPCA or the animals recovering there. The organization also needs help preventing animal cruelty and caring for animal cruelty victims.
One such victim, named "Cranberry" continues to recover at the shelter after being found emaciated and tied up in a trash bag last week. Since the PSPCA is 100 percent donor-funded, people are being asked to donate to help pay for Cranberry's care and other animals at the shelter.
The PSPCA not only provides medical care to their animals, they also investigate the animal abuse cases and try to bring the abusers to justice.
A new piece of legislation may be able to support their efforts. The Pet Protection Bill (HB 869) proposes increased penalties for people who abuse animals. People are being encouraged to contact their state legislature to show they're in favor of the bill and to hear its current status.
