Car, Bus Collide After Police Pursuit In Wilmington
WILMINGTON, DE (CBS) -- Two suspects have been arrested following a police chase that ended when the car being pursued collided with a bus around midnight.
Authorities say officers from the Uniform Services Division were on patrol near 7th and Washington streets in Wilmington when they attempted to stop a 2002 Hyundai Elantra "for displaying a fictitious tag." The vehicle operator, who police identified as 22-year-old Deiantsy Davis, of Chester, Pa., refused to stop and a pursuit ensued until the vehicle collided with a DART bus heading westbound at the intersection of 2nd and Monroe streets.
Police say as they approached the car, they saw Davis with a handgun in his hand. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon which he immediately complied. Davis and his front seat passenger, identified as 20-year-old Dauwud Cole, were taken into custody without further incident. They were treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
A search of the vehicle found 465 bags of heroin.
Davis was booked on charges of Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony, Possession of Tier 5 Quantity of Heroin and Failure to Stop for a Police Officers Signal, among other charges.
Dauwud was booked on charges of Possession of Tier 5 Quantity of Heroin and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The bus driver, who was the only one on board the bus at the time of the accident, suffered a shoulder injury.
