1501 Snyder Ave.
Philadelphia PA 19145
Since 1935, this long-standing eatery and bakery has been a Philadelphia tradition. Sports fans fill up the booths ahead of every big game thanks to Melrose’s prime location near the stadium. Omelets and other breakfast fare can be ordered around the clock, and the menu also includes burgers, Panini’s and much more. But save room for dessert, because the Melrose bakery is truly a local gem. Be sure to sample the butter cookies and butter cream cakes that have been on the menu for years.

This south Philly staple has been a favorite for more than 60 years, and for two good reasons: Great food and reasonable prices. Homemade specialties and fresh-baked goodies populate the menu, and free parking is an extra perk for patrons. The menu includes everything from kids’ meals to loaded appys for the late night crowd. Penrose has been voted Best Diner in the area for several years in a row.

239-241 Chestnut St.
Philadelphia, PA 19135
Located in Old City, this diner has a huge menu but it comes with a timetable. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night menus run on a schedule, but with so much to choose from it’s never a problem to get a great meal. (Breakfast food is also served during the late-night hours.) Be sure to sample the high-end dinner menu—definitely not typical diner food.
