The Magic Wand For Looking Younger Without Surgery

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's being called a magic wand for looking younger without surgery. It's the newest way to tighten skin, to turn back the signs of aging and with this there are no scars and no downtime

A double chin is something that has always bothered 57-year-old Lisa Clow. Lisa says it's a physical trait that runs in the family.

"My skin is starting to sag," she says. "That's what's bothering me, is the skin sagging under there."

Lisa, who lives in New Hope is active with her large family. She says she wants to look as young as she feels, plus she has a big high school reunion coming up.

"I would like to tighten it up without surgery, just to make me look a little younger," said Lisa. That's exactly what a therapy called ThermiTight is designed to do. It's a minimally invasive procedure that uses radio frequency energy.

Doylestown plastic surgeon Brian Buinewicz says a probe delivers heat just under the skin which damages tissue.

"Your body now sees that there's been an injury, collagen's been damaged and it goes back and gets rid of the damaged collagen and puts newer healthier more elastic like collagen back there," explains Dr. Buinewicz.

Lisa was first injected with local anesthetics then the probe is inserted with tiny punctures.

"Once you heat tissue, they stay hot for a while," said Dr. Buinewicz.

An infra-red scan monitors temperatures that are displayed on a screen.

"To have an injectable energy-type probe in order to tighten things and not scar somebody, this is neat stuff," he said. It takes 4 to 6 weeks to see final results and the procedure can also be used on the arms and belly.

For Linda Kiesel the results were dramatic.

"I have 4 children, no matter how much exercise or dieting I still had those crinkles," said Linda. The procedure can provide a modest lift for breasts.

Samantha Pena used the procedure to improve the appearance of her breasts.

"They were definitely sagging, not as perky as they should be, being that I'm 26 years old," said Samantha.

Lisa says the procedure was quick and easy for her.

There can be some minor swelling and bruising with ThermiTight which costs between $3000-$5000.
