Weekend Box Office Report: 'Doctor Strange' Remains Top
By Bill Wine
The comic book-inspired thriller, 'Doctor Strange,' starring Benedict Cumberbatch, made it two weeks in a row in first place at the box office by earning an estimated $43-million on its second weekend of release.
The second place finisher remained the same as 'Trolls,' the animated comedy, took in another $35-million.
Debuting attractions claimed the next two spots:
The science fiction thriller, 'Arrival,' with Amy Adams, earned $24-million, good for third.
And the ensemble comedy, 'Almost Christmas,' was fourth with $16-million.
The weekend's other new title, 'Shut In,' the suspense thriller with Naomi Watts, tallied just under $4-million, good for seventh place.
Overall, industry-wide totals were significantly lower than those of last weekend, but a good deal higher than those of a year ago.
