After Bye Week, Villanova Heads To Maine

VILLANOVA, Pa. (CBS) -- The Villanova Wildcats will return to action this week with a tough road Colonial Athletic Association match-up against Maine.

The Wildcats are 6-2 on the season and coming off a bye week which Andy Talley says came at a really good time.

"With three games to go, sometimes you're nursing some injuries that hang (around) and we were able to get fairly healthy and also two weeks to prep for a very good Maine team," Talley tells KYW Newsradio.

Villanova is in a four-way tie for third in the CAA and they come into Saturday's game just a game behind first place James Madison (the team they play next week), so they are very much in play for a conference title and a playoff berth.

"We control our own destiny," Talley says. "Obviously, Maine is 4-1 in the league as we are and so are (two) other teams. So this league is really tough going down to the wire. But if we can possibly squeak by and win this game, then we're in real good position to play a very good JMU team the following week."

Maine started out 0-3 but since then they have won five straight. And that bad start came at the hands of two FBS squads (UConn and Toledo) and the aforementioned James Madison team. During this current five-game winning streak, Maine is averaging 29.2 points a game.

"They've been very good with the running and passing game," Talley says. "They have a very fine quarterback and maybe some of the best wide recievers in the league. They can hit some big plays on you and that is a real concern for us."

Last season, Villanova beat Maine on the Main Line, 13-3.

Saturday's game kicks off at noon.
