CBS 3 Pet Project: Halloween Candy Can Be Harmful To Pets

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Halloween it's important to keep the candy away from pets as well as the days following when there will likely be a lot of treats in the house that are off limits for cats and dogs.

And it's not just chocolate that owners need to watch out for. Other candies can cause blockages and digestive problems as well. Sugar-free gum is especially dangerous for pets and may constitute a veterinary emergency for your animal.

If your pet does get into candy or something else they shouldn't be eating the family can call the Free Pet Poison Hotline at 785-532-5679 to get them the help they need.
