"You always have to be conscious about costumes these days. You don't know what's going to offend people," said Mattie Conaboy, who opted for a Ninja Turtles costume. From polarizing politics to issues of race and religion, This year, even clowns are complicating the process.

"No one wants to offend anyone and sometimes we're not sure what people are offended by, so that's tricky," said Raoul Garibay, assistant manager of the store, who says they don't stock costumes that purposely offend.

So, what crosses the line? The folks we spoke to said black face, nazis and terrorists are a big no no. When it comes ethnic costumes, it's a toss up.

One shopper insisted it's crossing the line because culture is not a costume, while another disagreed saying "it's fair game because we're a melting pot."

Just a few things to consider  in a country where holidays like Halloween have some saying we're too offended and others maintaining we're not sensitive enough.
