Big Weekend On Tap Along Schuylkill River

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The 46th annual Head of the Schuylkill Regatta gets underway Saturday morning.

The regatta's executive director, Jen Wesson, says the event has come a long way since its debut in 1971:

"It has grown from 180 competitors to over 8,000. From a one day event to a two-day event."

She says their goal has always been to include novice rowers, all the way through masters rowers:

"So you'll see all age and skill groups from someone who is just starting out rowing to the Olympians that just competed in Rio."

Last year, competitors from 29 states and ten different countries took part in the regatta.

There's no cost to attend. It begins at 8 a.m.
