Temple University Increases Security Following Violent Flash Mob

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Temple University is beefing up security, after a violent flash mob rampaged through campus Friday night.

There are increased patrols on campus, as police try to prevent a repeat of last Friday's teen rampage coordinated on social media. More than 150 teens attacked and robbed students and assaulted police near Broad and Oxford Streets.

Freshman Kailey Boger wants to see more officers during off-hours.

"I think they're doing okay, but I would definitely like if there were more people at the corners, like on the bikes or whatever," Boger said. "Just for security."

Like other students, Boger was also concerned that the university didn't send out a safety alert until well after the incident.

"It said that it was right here outside of our dorm," Boger said. "So I was like, 'Wow.' Shouldn't they have said something earlier? And I'm like, a little scared now, actually."

Senior Jessica Locker said in the meantime, teenagers need a better outlet.

"I think it's a little crazy that these kids are acting out in the way that they are, and they need another option."
