Philly's Favorite Music Venues, According To The Band Cheerleader

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For once, we've got a reputation that we completely deserve. Philadelphia is a great town for live music.

Everyone has their favorite spot to stand, from the sparkling new Fishtown feels of The Fillmore to the scars and stories of Electric Factory.

With that comes countless lists of "Philadelphia's Best Music Venues" across the interwebs from listicle-laboring interns and writers - but has anyone ever asked the band?

We did.

Cheerleader is among those bands that have blown up beyond the borders of brotherly love over the past few years with their debut album released in 2015. Their sunshine-soaked songs have taken them from small spots around town to the festival fields and beyond.

They come back home to Philadelphia for a show at Johnny Brenda's on Friday October 21st, but first we asked each of them their favorite venue to play.

Joe Haller - Johnny Brenda's

I dig shows at Johnny Brenda's. Great bar, and intimate stage!

Chris Duran - Boot & Saddle

I've always been a big fan of Boot & Saddle. The sound in that room is super killer, and the bar up front is great to hang out in before the show.

Josh Pannepacker - Ortlieb's

I enjoy watching shows at Ortlieb's in Northern Liberties . It has a very up close and personal vibe which creates an intimacy with the performers, and the bartenders are super cute!

Carl Bahner - Ortlieb's

I second Josh's vote for Ortleib's. I always have a great time there, and the new(ish) live room sounds sick! If you want a cozy hang with great music, that's the spot.

Paul Impellizeri - Ortlieb's

Sometime's you want to go where everybody knows your name. And they're always glad you came. Ortlieb's consistently has great touring bands coming through and very strong support from local bands. They recently renovated the space and the room sounds good anywhere you stand.  I'm there a few nights a week to see a show or just hang out. Oh yeah and the tacos are sooo good!

Ok. So someone either owns a piece of Ortlieb's or is at least dating a bartender there, but it's still nice to hear from the gentlemen of Cheerleader. For more from the band, you can check our interview from Firefly 2015 here.
