Former Philly Mayoral Candidate Sam Katz Busted At PHL With Marijuana

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia businessman Sam Katz, and former candidate for mayor, confirmed to Eyewitness News that he was busted at the Philadelphia International Airport for attempting to get marijuana on a plane.

The incident took place on Thursday morning.

Katz told Eyewitness News that he was on his way to Florida to go on a fishing trip with a friend. He added that his intention was to take the marijuana with him to smoke on the fishing boat. Katz explained that he had not smoked marijuana since college.

He told Eyewitness News that he purchased the marijuana and placed it in a briefcase, which was searched when he went through security.

Katz said that he was taken to the Philadelphia Police headquarters at the airport and was issue a $25 citation, which he says he will pay. He added that he is highly embarrassed and is accepting all responsibility for what happened.
