Police: Officer Dies After Suffering Medical Emergency Inside CJC

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia Police say an officer who suffered a medical emergency inside of the Criminal Justice Center this morning has died.

He has been identified as 41-year-old Douglas Bamberger, a 16-year-veteran of the department assigned to the Court Liaison Unit.

Officer Bamberger was rushed to the hospital after collapsing on the 9th floor around 7:30 a.m., police say.

Authorities says CPR was performed immediately.

He was transported to Hahneman where he was later pronounced dead shortly before 10:42 a.m.

It appears the officer suffered a massive heart attack.

The department released a statement saying, “Commissioner Richard Ross extends his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and Law Enforcement family of Officer Bamberger.”

Bamberger is survived by his wife and two children.
