Deptford Police Officer Allegedly Assaulted Responding To 9-1-1 Call

NEW JERSEY (CBS) -- A Deptford Police Officer was allegedly assaulted Saturday afternoon when responding to a 9-1-1 hangup call.

Upon arrival of the call, Officer Derek Mottershead attempted to speak with a woman regarding the call through an apartment door. After speaking with the resident for several minutes through the door, the female resident abruptly opened the door and threw "Pine Sol" cleaning solution, into the officer's face.

Police say this happened around 2:30 p.m. at the Deptford Park Apartments on Moylan Blvd.

Police identified the resident as Glynis Henson, 56; she was arrested after a brief struggle with the officer.

The officer was transported to Inspira Medical Center – Woodbury by Deptford Township EMS and later released after medical treatment.

Chief William Hanstein called this behavior on an officer unacceptable.

"The officer responded to assist as a result of the 911 call and then becomes the victim of an unprovoked assault. We will not tolerate any such attacks on our police officers who protect and serve the township. This will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Chief William Hanstein said.

Authorities say Henson was transported to police headquarters and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
