Chickens Spill Onto Roadway In Accident Involving 2 Tractor Trailers

SMYRNA, Del. (CBS) –  Soutbound Route 1 in Smyrna, Delaware was completely shutdown for about five hours this morning after a truck dumped a load of chickens on the road.

Delaware State Police say two tractor trailers crashed near the Smyrna exit of Soutbound Route 1 a little before 4 a.m.

Police say neither driver was hurt in the crash, but one of those trucks was carrying a load of live chickens and dozens of them spilled onto the roadway.

Most are just pecking through the grass next to the highway.

As a result, the southbound lanes of Route 1 were shutdown while crews try to round them up.

DelDOT says the road reopened at 10:36 a.m.

  1. This is so sad. Chickens feel pain, grief, love, and joy, just as humans do. There’s nothing anyone can do to bring back the birds who died in the crash, but we can all help other chickens just by choosing vegan foods.

This is absolutely heartbreaking and exactly why I am vegan. Meat production means mass murder for animals, serious destruction of the environment and increased risk of serious diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

Those poor birds. A life of abject misery and a painful and terrifying death. If you are moved by this story, and who isn’t, make a difference by going veg. Then no chicken has to suffer and die for your fleeting meal.

This is disgusting. Countless chickens were injured and died. Many more are wandering around in a daze. Yet this grisly crash is being treated like an inconvenience to drivers.
