Columbus Day Parade, Other Events To Cause Several Road Closures This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As you plan out your weekend travels, several events in the city, including the Columbus Day Parade, will close road closures in Philadelphia.

On Saturday, the Friends of Rittenhouse Square will be holding an outdoor event from 11:00 a.m., until 11:00 p.m. The outdoor dining event will occur on 18th Street between Locust Street and Walnut Street.

Sunday will be highlighted by the Columbus Day Parade which will run along South Broad Street. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Broad Street will be closed from Washington to Bigler. The 1400 block of Bigler Street will be closed. Washington Avenue will close from 13th Street to 17th Street, and Oregon Avenue will be closed from 13th to 15th Street.

Sunday will also feature two other events. The 5,000 Yards Dash Run/Walk is scheduled for Sunday morning. The event will head south on Delaware Avenue to S. Columbus Blvd. Then will move onto Spruce Street to the River Trail before heading north on the Delaware River Trail to Market Street.

It will head west on Market to Columbus Blvd., north to Delaware Avenue where it will finish around 10:00 a.m. Roads will close at 6:30 a.m.

The Old City Festival is also scheduled for Sunday. It will take place along Arch Street, from 2nd to 4th Street and on 3rd Street from Market to Race. Those road closures will begin at 2:00 a.m. and the event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Officers will be assigned to these events and commuters are warned that traffic will be heavy in these areas.
