The Eagles' Good, Bad & Ugly

By Joseph Santoliquito

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) —There was a lot to like, very few things to dislike and some areas that show great promise in the Eagles' 34-3 thumping over the previously undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

The Good

Quarterback Carson Wentz was 23 of 31 for a career-best 301 yards and two touchdowns. He's three games into an NFL career and looks more like a franchise quarterback than Donovan McNabb did at the same stage of his career.

Eagles' coach Doug Pederson's play calling, game management, pretty much everything the rookie NFL coach has touched has turned into gold. It's rather scary to think not many believed in Pederson just a month ago.

Running back Darren Sproles' nifty 73-yard touchdown run off a short pass from Wentz that gave the Birds a 20-3 lead.

Running back tandem of Wendell Smallwood and Kenjon Barner combined for 121 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns. They averaged a combined 4.84 yards a carry.

Safety Malcolm Jenkins breaking up Pittsburgh's attempt at a first down on fourth-and-five at the Philasdelphia 33 with 10:55 left in the third quarter. The Jenkins play thwarted a shot at the Steelers climbing back into the game after the Eagles went up 20-3.

Jenkins again with 4:50 left in the third quarter, running over from midfield to break up a pass to Antonio Brown.

Defensive tackle Bennie Logan's blocked field goal on the Steelers first drive.

Logan's 8-yard sack with 3:45 left in the third quarter.

Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox's forced fumble and 7-yard sack with 3:17 left in the third quarter.

Defensive end Brandon Graham's 9-yard, fourth-quarter sack and third-quarter fumble recovery, which led to Barner's 8-yard TD run with 1:52 left in the third quarter that gave the Eagles a 34-3 lead.

The Bad

Running back Darren Sproles running out of bounds before the first down marker, then compounding that by running out of bounds stopping the clock at :38 of the first half. It gave Pittsburgh the ball back—but the Steelers did nothing with it.

The Ugly

Tight end Trey Burton's two drops when he was wide open down the middle of the field within the last minute of the first half.

Receiver Dorial Green-Beckham's drop in the latter part of the third quarter. Wentz tossed a perfect pass that landed right in Green-Beckham's hands—and he dropped it in the end zone. The Eagles were fortunate, since a roughing-the-passer penalty was called on the play.
