PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The changes Twitter announced back in May to expand its character limit are now live.
That means media content like photos, videos, GIFs, polls and quote tweets no longer eat into your character count. Links still do, however.
The social network is also “testing” an option in which a user’s handle is also excluded from the count when you reply to a tweet.
The updates come after years of rumors of Twitter’s plans to expand beyond its iconic 140-character limit.
The goal is to make the service easier to use for new users.
