Eagles Fans Reacting Positively To Carson Wentz

by Trang Do

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Eagles fans are reacting positively to the team officially naming rookie Carson Wentz starting quarterback on Monday, following Sam Bradford's trade to the Vikings.

There's a lot of buzz on social media as well. A few of the trending hashtags include: Wentzadelphia, Wentzday and Wentzwagon.

"I have a feeling about him," said John Lombardo of Northeast Philadelphia. "I feel a good feeling about Wentz since we drafted him. We moved up. I have a really good feeling in my heart."

"Pretty excited because the Eagles, last year they did, okay," said Lucas Bucci of Norristown. "This year, I think they're going to do a lot better because of Carson Wentz."

Wentz, a North Dakota transplant chosen second overall in this year's draft, injured his ribs in his first preseason game with the Birds. Though Wentz hasn't seen much gameplay, fans are optimistic.

"I'm going to give him a chance, see what he do before I say something," said Garelon Cowley of West Philadelphia. I've seen him in college, he was okay, he wasn't the best, but he's a good fit."

"I think he'll make rookie mistakes, but there's no other way to learn than on the job," said Mike Maratea of South Philadelphia. "Give him this season, get it under his belt and I think next year, moving forward, they'll be a good team."

Before winning any games, he's already won a lot of hearts. Wentz's number 11 is currently the 6th bestselling jersey in the NFL.

"As far as I see him right now, nothing but good breezes coming from this guy," said Zachery Love of North Philadelphia. "He's going to be up in the clouds. The moment he throws an interception, costs us the game, we're going to hate him all over again."

But for now, fans will continue to ride the Wentz wagon.

"My team is going to the Super Bowl," Love said. "Eagles all day, baby!"

Wentz will make his NFL debut Sunday at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field on against the Cleveland Browns. The game airs on CBS3.
