Online Jam Aims To Help Supply Paper To Philadelphia Schools
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Fishtown woman has taken to the Internet in an effort to help Philadelphia schools solve a major problem-- lack of paper in classrooms. She started a jam -- and is hoping word will spread.
It's called the Philly Paper Jam.
"It's basically, a giant paper drive," says Sibyl Lindsay, the founder of Hipster Henry, an online resource for Philadelphia parents.
And when Lindsay learned that many public schools run out of paper mid-year she decided to take action.
"If we all stepped in and bought paper, reams of paper for the schools, we could solve this problem," she said.
Lindsay says it costs anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000 per school to fill the paper gap, and she is hoping to collect enough to help 30 Philadelphia schools through sponsorships and donations. So far people have stepped up.
"Before I even tell people what we needed, people have said yes," Lindsay said.
Fifteen schools have been pre-selected and 15 more will be determined with online votes through September 30.
