First Day Of School For Some Montco Students
MONTGOMERY COUNTY (CBS) -- Summer vacation is winding down for many students across Pennsylvania, but for some… it ends Monday.
Spring-Ford School District in Montgomery County is one of a handful starting classes Monday, but district spokeswoman Erin Crew said there's a payoff down the road.
"We do have a full week at Thanksgiving and we do have a little bit more time typically at Spring Break, so it all comes out in the wash," he noted.
This is the 16th year Spring-Ford has started before labor Day. North Penn starts on Tuesday, a relative new-comer to the pre-Labor Day back-to-school, as last year was their first time.
Superintendent Curtis Dietrich said it comes with a couple advantages.
"Students seem to be more attentive in warm weather now when they haven't been in school for quite a while, than in June when they've been in school all year long."
And he said teachers appreciate the additional time before the state testing in the spring.
