Doug Pederson Reflects On Russell Wilson As An Eagle

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Oh, what could have been.

Back in 2012, the Philadelphia Eagles loved Russell Wilson. In fact, Wilson promised championships for the Eagles in text messages to NFL reporters leading up to that draft.

At the time, Andy Reid -- although he didn't know it -- was entering his 14th and final season as Eagles' head coach. Doug Pederson was the team's quarterbacks coach.

"The Eagles loved Wilson, but decided to wait until the third round to take their shot at him," Albert Breer wrote on Thursday for MMQB.SI.com.

The Seahawks, of course, snagged Wilson 13 picks ahead of the Eagles in round three. The Eagles settled for Nick Foles with the 88th overall pick.

"If we'd have drafted Russell Wilson in 2012, we'd still be here as coaches," Pederson told Breer.

Wilson, 27, is already a Super Bowl champion and came just one yard away from winning two straight titles.

Last year, Wilson finished third in completion percentage (68.1), second in touchdown-interception ratio (34-8), and first in QB rating (110.1). His +27.9 production premium metric on playerprofiler.com, which measures a player's production across league-average situations, was first among all NFL QB's.

It's safe to say the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback would have looked beautiful in midnight green.
