Pa. Charter School Head Resigning Over Drug-Related Mailer

CATASAUQUA, Pa. (AP) — The CEO of a central Pennsylvania charter school is resigning after a mailer claiming to be from the school mentioned the arrest of an eastern Pennsylvania public high school student for drug possession.

Loraine Petrillo says she had nothing to do with the mailer, but is resigning in the wake of the controversy it has causes surrounding the Innovative Arts Academy Charter School in Catasauqua. She's remaining on the job temporarily so the school can open as planned Sept. 6.

The school says the mailer wasn't authorized by them. It references the arrest last year of a 17-year-old Liberty High School student, and says "Why worry about this type of student at school?"

The charter school is investigating and plans litigation once it finds whoever paid for the mailer.
