Report: Carson Wentz 'Highly Unlikely' To Play In Final Preseason Game

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It looks like we won't see Carson Wentz in the Eagles' final preseason game on Thursday, September 1st against the New York Jets, according to 94WIP's Howard Eskin.

"There are people within the organization, higher up, that do not want him to play in the Jets game," Eskin told the 94WIP Morning Show on Tuesday. "The risk-reward doesn't make any sense. You get him work, but you put him at risk. I would say right now, from what I've been told, the chances of him playing in the Jets game are probably 10-percent at most. That's at most, unless there's some kind of miraculous change. And I kinda understand it. You want to get him work, but he's got a whole season. He's got a whole next year."

Wentz, who suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs, is gradually working his way back. On Monday, there were conflicting reports about if he was throwing or not, with head coach Doug Pederson and Wentz getting their days mixed up.

"He threw to the trainer, just because he wanted to throw the ball," Eskin explained. "I saw him take some snaps yesterday, but he didn't do anything after the snaps when they were actually out on the field in the drills."

Wentz was 12-24 for 89 yards and 1 INT in his NFL debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Eagles' first preseason game.
