NJ TTF Impasse Leaves Governor Frustrated

TRENTON, NJ (CBS) -- The impasse over replenishing the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund is well into its second month, and Governor Chris Christie is expressing increased frustration over the situation.
The state senate has yet to vote on a compromise hammered out between Christie and the Assembly in late June. The deal provides tax cuts to accompany a 23 cent-a-gallon hike in the state gas tax.
So the Governor says those who want this settled, should direct their calls to their state senator.
"I'm ready to sign a gas tax increase into law in order to sustainably fund the Transportation Trust Fund," Christie told reporters in Trenton. "Pass the bill and put it on my desk. I wish I could do it by myself. If I could it would be done already. But I can't."
Senate President Steve Sweeney objects to a gradual 1% reduction in the sales tax saying that, along with other cuts, would blow a huge hole in future state budgets.
