Eagles Hold Final Practice At Linc Without Wentz

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Over 17,000 fans braved the end of the heat wave to watch the Eagles' open practice at the Linc. There was another unwilling spectator on the sidelines.

Quarterback Carson Wentz learned on Saturday that he has a hairline fracture of his ribs. Wentz suffered the injury last Thursday against Tampa Bay, and is now dealing with a rib injury for the first time.

"I'm feeling all right," said Wentz. "The ribs are obviously a little sore, but they'll be all right in due time here. I just got to give it time and we'll see what happens."

Wentz was hoping to spend much of the preseason getting his first taste of NFL action. The rookie is expected to be a spectator for a different reason in the regular season with Sam Bradford slated as the starting quarterback. Wentz is still hopeful he will be back before the final preseason game on September 1st, but the rookie understands he has to proceed with caution.

"We just know contact's limited here for a while," Wentz said. "The goal is, hopefully, still in preseason that I'll still be ready to go, but you never know with these things. We'll have to see."

While Wentz was forced to watch practice Sunday night, the healthy Eagles are looking to improve after Thursday night's preseason opener. Tight End Zach Ertz is getting plenty of work in practice, and knows there is a lot for the team to clean up as the preseason progresses.

"We've just got to execute better," Ertz said. "The first-team offense did great with three plays and a touchdown, but as we keep going down the line, there's the twos and the threes. Whoever is in the game has got to represent the Eagles the way we want to be represented."

Ertz was also happy to be back at the Linc for another open practice in front of the fans. It was also a night to honor the men and women in the armed forces, as the team held it's annual Military Appreciation Day. Service members were on the field and had a chance to meet with the players and coaches, while the Eagles wore special camouflaged jersey numbers to honor the military personnel.

"We love coming to the Linc," Ertz said. "It's such an unbelievable experience and also having the military out here...we're just so thankful as players to have the opportunity to do what we do each and every day. We never take it for granted. These guys are risking their lives each and every day."
