Beach Restaurant Goes Up In Flames After Speeding Car Crashes Into It

DEWEY, DE. (CBS) -- A beach restaurant is thought to be a "total loss" after a car sped into it overnight.

Ed's Chicken and Crabs went up in flames early Tuesday morning when a Mini Cooper crashed into the store, severing a propane line which caused a gas leak.

Authorities say four arriving officers and a civilian who was near the scene rushed into the building, broke the passenger side window of the car and rescued the driver, 36-year-old Michelle Small moments before the structure caught fire.

According to officials, Small had been speeding on Coastal Highway Southbound when she lost control of her vehicle at Clayton Street, crossed the center median and crashed into Ed's, approximately a half-block up the road.
