Woman Allegedly Buys Thousands Of Dollars In Gift Cards Using Stolen Credit Cards

By Tim Jimenez

EVESHAM Twp., NJ (CBS) -- Police in South Jersey are looking for a woman who they say bought thousands of dollars in gift cards using a victim's stolen credit cards.

Evesham Township police got a call on July 30th. A woman either lost her purse or it was stolen while she was at the Promenade Shopping Center on Route 73 in Marlton.

That same day police say the suspect's spending spree began.

Lieutenant Joseph Friel says, for a few days, she used multiple credit cards belonging to the victim.

"They were targeting just gift cards. Specifically, Target and iTunes gift cards."

Purchased at five Target stores in South Jersey: Voorhees, Gloucester Township, Turnersville, Mantua, Deptford.

The final tally? "Was $18,074"

Friel says they were able to get a picture of the woman they're looking for with the help of Target.

Friel says if something similar happens to you, your cards are either lost or stolen, the first call should be to police, the second to the credit card companies.
