Tap Dancing Legend Comes To Philly To Find Dancers For New Musical

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A tap dancing legend comes to Philadelphia in search of performers for a new musical.

Maurice Hines the brother of the late Gregory Hines has been dancing since he was seven years old and his musical "Tappin' Thru Life" aims to tell his story through dance.

"I'm very excited about this," said Hines. "I can't tell you how excited I am to come back to Philly and to thank them with the love I have for my family."

This morning Hines held an audition for local youngsters interested in performing in the musical.

"My brother and I were very very good performers because we were taught that by the greats, when you work with the Nicholas Brothers and you work with Ella Fitzgerald and you work with Duke Ellington you better know how to perform. So that's what I am looking for, not just the feet, the whole package."

Thirteen-year-old Madison McKenzie from Bear, Del. auditioned to be in the musical.

"That's something I've dreamed of, it's such a cool experience, him telling me that I have great charisma and that one of my clap steps had brought back memories for him. That was cool for me."

"Tappin' Thru Life" runs September 28th through November 20th at the Penn's Landing Playhouse.
