Extreme Heat To Make Things Uncomfortable For Protesters, Police During DNC

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The heat could make it in an uncomfortable day for both police and DNC protesters in Philadelphia.

Mayor Jim Kenney says the city is prepared and has had experience with a similar event when the Republicans were here some 16 years ago.

"In 2000, we had the RNC and there were a number of marches there. The weather was similar to what it is now, maybe it's a little hotter now than it was then. But our officers are prepared, they're trained. There are water stations coming around to them to keep them fed, hydrated."

As for protesters, Kenney says the city will provide bottles of water, and set up misting stations along protest routes and at FDR park - one of the main protest areas.
