Police: Mother Killed, Father & Son Injured In South Philadelphia Hit & Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a woman and injured six other people in South Philadelphia.

It happened around 8 p.m. Friday at 21st and Jackson Streets.

Police say a white Toyota Avalon sped through a stop sign, collided with a minivan, then skid across the pavement and crashed into a family a three, and kept going.

A 38-year-old woman was rushed to Jefferson Hospital where she died a short time later. Her husband and 2-year-old son were also taken to the hospital where they remained in stable condition Saturday morning.

Four people inside the minivan, two adults and two children, were also injured in the crash.

After tips from witnesses, police say they found and arrested the driver less than a half mile away from the scene on the 2000 block of Snyder Avenue.

Authorities say the driver is a 36-year-old man with a previous record. He was expected to be charged with homicide and related offenses.
