Phillies Open Long Road Trip Tonight In Pittsburgh

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies are hoping for better success on the road than they just had at home.

After losing five of seven on their just completed homestand, which wrapped up with an ugly 9-3 loss last night to Miami, the Phillies tonight open a ten-game road trip with the first of three in Pittsburgh against the Pirates.

Right-hander Zach Eflin will get the start on the mound for the Phillies. The rookie is 2-3 with a 4.14 ERA. In his last start, Eflin lost to the Mets despite pitching pretty good baseball. In six innings, he allowed three runs in six innings of work. This will be his first career appearance against Pittsburgh.

The Pirates will counter on the mound with right-hander Gerrit Cole. He is 5-5 this season with a 3.11 ERA. He returned from the DL on July 16th, losing to Washington. He allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings. Cole has made four starts in his career against the Phillies, going 3-1 with a 2.31 ERA.

Here is the Phillies lineup tonight vs. Cole:

1. Peter Bourjos RF
2. Odubel Herrera CF
3. Maikel Franco 3B
4. Tommy Joseph 1B
5. Cameron Rupp C
6. Cody Asche LF
7. Freddy Galvis SS
8. Cesar Hernandez 2B
9. Zach Eflin P

The Phillies are 44-53 heading into this road trip, which will also include stops in Miami and Atlanta. The Pirates are 49-46.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review to get a scout of the 2016 Pirates.
