Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Annapolis Kayak Tour

By Jay Lloyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Seeing the sights of a destination from the water is an eye-filling experience -- and there's an Annapolis kayak tour that puts visitors even closer to the action.

Max Godwin paddle powered his kayak close to the rail of our 39 foot sailboat, moored off the United State Naval Academy. Trailing him was a line of kayak ducklings, paddled by visitors, listening as Max recalled the history of this dynamic harbor. He stopped to chat.

"When you're on the water, you're within feet, you're with inches," he said, "like we are to you right now, seeing the beauty of Annapolis."

And you get very close to some of those magnificent yachts, flying the flags of many nations. But you see more than boats.

"We go through the entire area," Godwin said, "including world-famous Ego Alley."

The two-hour guided kayak tour takes visitors along the dynamic harborfront where America's Naval heroes trained, and provides a view of the last resting place of John Paul Jones.
