Police: Man Arrested After Throwing Rock At Moving Police Car, Shattering Windshield

COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- A Coatesville man was arrested and charged after police say he threw a large rock at the windshield of a police car intentionally. Authorities say he followed that up by attacking the officer driving the vehicle with the rock.

The incident took place on Monday around 1:50 p.m. Officials say Officer Jared Davis was on patrol in his marked vehicle on the 500 block of East Lincoln Highway.

Authorities say that is where Eric Watson, 29, threw a large rock at the car, shattering the windshield.

Officer Davis got out of the vehicle, and that is when police say Watson tried to strike him in the head with the rock.

Officials say Watson resisted arrest until back-up arrived, taking him to the ground. Authorities say one of the officers suffered a broken sternum during the altercation.

Watson was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, institutional vandalism, resisting arrest and related crimes.
