Police Warn To Avoid Scams When Donating To Officer Dorman

FOLCROFT, Pa. (CBS) - The community continues showing their love to wounded Folcroft Police Officer Chris Dorman, who was shot seven times in the line of duty last week.

He was released from the hospital on Monday. If you're interested in giving money to help support his road to recovery, Folcroft Police say just be careful, there are fake donation sites out there.

If you're dropping money off, they say there are only two places to do that.

"All checks should be written to the Delaware County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 located at 201 North Jackson Street in Media, Pa," says Sergeant Christopher Eiserman. "But they also can be dropped off at the Folcroft Police Department, and we will then forward them to the Delaware County FOP."

Eiserman says when donating online, look for one thing:

"The only legitimate GoFundMe account for Officer Dorman is the one being ran be Amanda Viglione."

As for benefits being held...

"The only benefit that has been authorized by the police department and/or the family," Eiserman says, "is the one that will be run by the Folcroft Police Department in conjunction with the Delaware County Fraternal Order or Police."

Basically, Eiserman says, just pay attention when donating:

"They just have to be aware of where they're sending their money. It's always best to see someone in person, especially someone in uniform."

He says there's someone at the police department 24/7.
