PA House Passes Budget Bill

HARRISBURG (CBS) -- Facing a Thursday deadline, the state House – as expected -- has passed a bi-partisan budget plan. But the fate of the spending plan remains uncertain in the Senate, and with Governor Wolf.

Montgomery County Republican Kate Harper spoke in favor of the spending plan passed by the House.

"We've never had a perfect budget in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and this one's not perfect," Harper said. "But it's not bad."

But fellow Republican Rick Saccone of Allegheny County opposed the budget bill.

"Politicians say, 'well, we just got to get something done, we just got to get something done.' When you hear politicians say we've got to get something done, grab your wallet Mr. Taxpayer and run! Run!"

The House budget anticipates increased revenue from tobacco taxes.

A spokeswoman for majority Senate Republican leaders says they are reserving judgment on the House budget, and Governor Wolf has not agreed to it.

Meanwhile, the House on Tuesday sent the Senate another piece of the revenue puzzle, a bill expanding gambling, including legalization of Internet gaming.
