Positively Philadelphia: NextFab Teaches How To Make Anything

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Shared office space has become a huge thing in Philadelphia, and now there's shared maker space.

"If you want to learn how to make anything, you can do it here. It's a collaborative studio. It's built around the same model as a gym. You don't actually have the equipment here yourself, so we provide all of that equipment, and we also provide all of the education and training," said Melissa Guglielmo, the location manager and jewelry technical supervisor for NextFab, at 1227 North 4th Street in South Kensington.

They have various equipment tools to help get the job done.

"An electronics lab, a computer lab, a wood shop, a metal shop, a jewelry studio and much more. 700 people already belong including artists, engineers, designers, and hobbyists."

There are two NextFabs in Philadelphia: the North 4th street location and another one at 2025 Washington Avenue. And it started here.

"Evan Malone is the founder of NextFab. Philadelphia really resonated with him. He felt like there was this past of manufacturing here and that there was a lot of room to give resources to the community here."

There are classes, a job bank and a chance to meet other people making amazing things.
