Former Fire Captain Spared Jailtime For Videotaping People In Bathroom

LYNDHURST, N.J. (AP) — A former fire captain and football coach has been spared a prison term for videotaping people as they used the bathroom in his northern New Jersey home during a pool party.

Mitchell Morreale instead received 18 months of probation when he was sentenced Friday. He also must undergo "sex offender-specific counseling."

The Lyndhurst man had pleaded guilty in March to invasion of privacy.

Bergen County prosecutors say Morreale hosted a pool party for his son at his Lyndhurst home in June 2015. Authorities say one of the teens was using Morreale's bathroom when she noticed a light in the closet that turned out to be a recording device.

Morreale's lawyer has said his client hid the camera because he suspected drug use in the bathroom.
