Parent Approved: Camden School Gives Students Special Surprise For Summer

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- Some Camden school students received a special surprise for the summer.

Students at Camden Community Charter School received over 6500 books for the summer.

"We're trying to prevent that summer reading slide by giving each child between 15 and 30 books that they can call their own," said Reading Specialist Lynette Brenner.

Brenner says it's important that kids continue reading when they're not in school.

"Research shows that when children don't read over the summer, they lose between 3-6 months of their academic growth."

The school surprised the kids with books and the children were excited to receive them.

"We get to read books that we know and then when we get to a higher level, we get to read more and more and more books," said an excited student. "I'm excited!"
